Set the country a workspace is checked from

Each workspace has a country. It tells the engines where to answer as though the searcher is standing, which changes the answer more than people expect.

By default a workspace is checked as though the searcher is in the United States.

Why it matters

An engine asked with nothing said about location answers from wherever the request came from. Asked from one place it returns local sources and local brands; asked from another it returns different ones. If you are measuring how a London client appears to London customers, a check answered as though from New York is measuring somebody else’s market.

An agency with clients in different countries should set each workspace to its client’s market.

The engine that cannot be told

Gemini cannot be given a location. Its search tool takes no country, so it follows whichever machine asks, which for weekly checks is the server running the job. This is a limit of the engine, not a setting we have left unfinished.

The consequence is worth knowing: a Gemini number and a Perplexity number for the same workspace are not measured from the same place. It is stated on the methodology page for the same reason it is stated here.
