What Keylight measures
Keylight measures how often an AI engine names your brand when someone asks it for a recommendation in your category.
Ask ChatGPT for the best project management tool and it names four or five. Ask it again tomorrow and the list shifts. Your appearance score is the share of those answers, across many questions and many weeks, in which your brand comes up. A brand at 34% is named in about a third of the answers to questions in its category.
That is a rate, not a rank. Search engines rank pages, so there is a position one. AI engines compose an answer, so there is no position one to hold. Being named at all is the unit.
What it does not do
Keylight does not tell you how to appear more often. We show which pages the engines quoted and which questions you were missing from, and we stop there. No technique has been shown to reliably change what an AI engine recommends, so we do not sell one. If that changes, the methodology page will say so before anything else does.
What you can check yourself
Every number has the raw answers behind it. Click any score and you can read the exact text the engine produced, on the date it produced it, with your brand highlighted where it appears. Nothing is summarised away.
