Reading your first score

Your score is shown as something like 34% ±18.

The 34% is the appearance score. Across all the questions asked for this workspace, your brand was named in 34% of the answers.

The ±18 is the margin of error. The true rate is likely to sit somewhere between 16% and 52%. It is wide because the number is built from a sample, and a sample of the size we use carries roughly that much uncertainty.

Why we show the margin at all

Because a number without one invites you to act on a difference that is not there. If you read 34% one week and 39% the next, and both carry ±18, nothing has happened. The bands overlap almost entirely.

Most tools in this market publish the first number and not the second. We publish both, and the methodology page shows the formula so a client can reproduce it.

A rough guide

Under 10% means you are rarely named. Between 10 and 40% means you are one option among several. Over 40% means you are a default recommendation in your category.

These are readings, not thresholds. What matters more is the direction over several weeks, and whether that direction is bigger than the margin.
