Why appearance leads and prominence supports

There are two scores and they are not equal in standing.

Appearance leads. It is in the email, in the PDF, on the marketing pages, and it is the only number that ever appears on its own.

Prominence supports. It sits beside appearance inside the product. It never appears on its own in an email, in a PDF, or on a marketing page.

The reason

A client can audit an appearance score in thirty seconds by reading the answers. They cannot audit a prominence score without agreeing to our reading of a sentence first.

That makes appearance the number worth building a business on, and prominence the number worth showing next to it.

They are never blended

There is no combined Keylight Score. Blending a fact with an interpretation produces something that is neither, and that cannot be defended in a client meeting.

When they disagree

That disagreement is information, not a problem to smooth over. High appearance with low prominence means the engines know you and do not favour you. Low appearance with high prominence means you are rarely named and named well when you are. Keylight says which of those is happening rather than averaging it away.
